The problems of economic development in Cameroon are mostly due to transport constraints.
Despite the efforts of territorial development by the government, most regions especially rural zones remain enclaved in Cameroon. It is the case with « Nguibassal » a subdivision in the center region where enclavement does not only hinders mobility but also towards economic and political centers of the country.
« Nguibassal is 65 km from Yaounde but we usually cover this distance in 2 or 3hours depending on the season. In the dry season, transport fare is 2500 Francs without luggage but the price doubles to 5000 francs even more in the rainy season » says Pierre Makong a driver.
A road in very bad condition not asphalted, cars are regularly overloaded and accidents frequent. The population is mostly made up of farmers who have difficulties selling their agricultural products. Malicious cocoa buyers take advantage of this situation to make money by buying at cheap prices.
Local authorities says with the ongoing decentralization process, it will be easier for the local council to manage the asphalting of the road since the budget will now be consistent and the council will therefore have all the means to develop their localities.
Nguibassal has a population of more than 35,000 uncertain to emerge by 2035 as advocated by politicians.
