Since 2018, the CDC is no longer been included in the file of banana exporters of Cameroon because of the socio-political crisis that exist in the Northwest and Southwest.
The crisis in the English speaking regions seriously impacted the CDC, which is now running at its lowest rate that is 2.5 billion FCFA compared with the 60 billion before the crisis. Second employer after the state of Cameroon, the company now employs 11 000 people, exactly half of its 22 000 employees, leaving thousands of families without a lively hood.
Faced with this crisis, the new board chair Hope Sona Ebai held a board meeting in Limbe to look on strategies to perk up this company which has been weakened for years.
« If the CDC is left unassisted, the consequences could be devastating for the country. We appeal the government not to relent to assist us financially so that the corporation can continue work for the development and welfare of the population of the Northwest and Southwest » says the chairman of the board of directors Hope Sona Ebai.
Strategies to get rid of this critical situation were also proposed during the meeting. It was proposed that the CDC should ensure the protection of workers in the fields because several lost their lives and others kidnapped by cessessionists. Again government should keep on supporting the corporation financially most especially as the company registers late payments of salaries to workers.
The board of directors says they will do everything to keep the Corporation alive.
