Almost all towns and villages in Cameroon face plastic waste which sometimes is the cause of certain floods.
The government of Cameroon had banned since April 2014, the manufacturing, importation, possession, marketing or distribution of plastic packaging of less than 60 microns. Yet, the Ministry of Environment, declaires Cameroon records nearly 600 000 tonnes of plastic waste each year.
It should be noted that this waste seriously damage the ozone layer. Since the decision of the government against plastic packaging, these measures have not been respected because non-biodegradable plastics continue to circulate.
There is no manufacturing plant for bio-degradable plastic as the smuggling of these products continue to grow.
The lightness of the public authorities to this situation, does not allow this waste to definitely get rid of. We do not promote enough packaging with paper in cardboard nor even wild leaves such as the leaves with which we attach traditional dishes.
Regarding the plastic bottles, they often drain during heavy rains leading to floodings and dirt.
Since the ban, cameroonians still use it in their daily life under the complicity an laxity of the public authorities because they fear nothing.
