Cameroon rail comes back to life between Douala and Yaoundé

4 years after the Eseka tragedy, Camrail launches the Express train.

It is no longer the TGV which had been announced to much media hype, but rather the Express Train that was launched last July 1st 2021.

Departing from Douala Bessengue station at 6 am, the express train arrived Yaounde at 11 am passing through the towns of Edea, Eseka and Ngoumou. This inauguration comes after the Eseka tragedy that occurred in October 2016 causing the dead of about 76 people and 600 injured.

The commissioning of the Express train allows the launch of a new train transport offer between Douala and Yaounde” explains Bollore the concessionaire of the rail sector in Cameroon.

It should be noted that, of the four locomotives put into service by Camrail, one will be rented to Bollore group for almost 100 million francs per month while waiting for 25 new cars for the train.

The company says it has to serve Douala and Yaounde at the rate of two trips per day. The sleeper train Yaounde to Ngaoundere will undergo some modifications on the departure hours.
Yaounde –Ngaoundere departure time 7:50 pm, Ngaoundere-Yaounde 6pm.
A modification which is not appreciated by the populations of the North.
